A story by Sister Aamilah
Sitting in the college cafe, Farzana could hear the whispers from the sisters around her:
''Oh my gosh did you see her with that guy, astagfirullah''
''She wears hijab yet she has a boyfriend''
''What a tart, she aint no muslim, she is a hypocrite''
''She may as well remove the hijab if she has a haram boyfriend''
Finishing her coffee, Farzana picks up her books and leaves the room knowing full well that everyone had seen her out the night before.
She calles Ayyub on the phone and tells him what everyone is saying about them and how upset she is that her sisters are being so mean.
Ayyub laughs and tells her not to worry as they will soon be talking about someone else. Feeling a little better Farzana tells Ayyub she loves him and will see him soon, before hanging up.
Walking back to class, Farzana calls Maryam, a girl she had met at college a few days before:
F) As salaam alaikum sis
M) Wa alaikum salaam sweetie, I cant speak long as my battery is low. How are you?
F) Sis i'm so upset, everyone is talking about me
M) Yes SubhanAllah, i heard what they were saying
F) I cant belive they are being so cruel sis, the thing is...
Maryam Interupts Farzana
M) Look sis you dont have to explain to me that you have a boyfriend, i wont judge you. I simply advise you that its haram, but at the end of the day you are the one that has to make the desicion to stop seeing him. I am your friend and i love you and trust you to make the right choice.
F) Yeah but the thing is....
The battery on Maryams phone dies and the conversation comes to an end
Feeling sad, Farzana decides to go home as she can not concentrate on her studies when she knows everyone is talking about her behind her back.
As she heads out the gate she see's Ayyub waiting for her. Ayyub gives Farzana a big hug and explains that he came to check she was ok after being so upset on the phone. As they walk home they talk about the days events, All the time Farzana is looking around to make sure no one sees them together, as she could not stand any more gossiping:
A) Why dont you just tell them about me and then it will all stop
F) Why should i have to explain my personal life to them Ayyub, i mean it has nothing to do with them who i spend my time with, and anyway they are meant to be my muslim sisters and not judge me like this
A) They must of seen us in town together last night and started talking about us straight away this morning
F) I know, but why are they so interested in my life. Don't they have anything better to do?
A) Oh well babes, i still love you
Laughing, Farzana slaps Ayyub on the arm and tells him she loves him more.
As they walk along together Farzana thinks how happy she is that Allah blessed her with Ayyub.........The best big brother in the world!!!

This is one of my favourite stories!
You can tell theres a lot of love and respect between brother and sister. Its also a reminder not to jump to conclusions when you see a muslimah with a man. It could be her father, brother, husband, son, nephew, uncle etc etc!
